Plumber in Manly.
Ocean on one side, harbour on the other, and a dense mix of deco flats and terraces in between — the most corrosive address on the northern beaches.
What we see in Manly.
Being on a narrow isthmus means exposure from both the ocean and the harbour. External fittings, roof plumbing and hot water systems here have the shortest service life we see anywhere in Sydney.
The older blocks off the Corso run shared stacks and original risers. Retrofitting to modern standards inside heritage-era buildings is a large part of what we do here.
Short-stay accommodation runs near capacity over summer. Hot water systems and drains sized for normal occupancy struggle in January, which is when most of our Manly callouts land.

Asked in Manly.
Noticeably less than the manufacturer's figure, unless it's specified for the location. Salt-laden air from both the ocean and the harbour attacks the tank casing, the fittings and the relief valve. Two things extend it meaningfully: buying a unit rated for coastal installation rather than the cheapest available, and having the sacrificial anode checked every couple of years. The anode is designed to corrode instead of your tank — it's a small service cost against a full replacement.
